Advanced Process Control
Every production process is subject to variations in key operating parameters such as pressure, temperature, quality of raw materials, etc. all affecting energy consumption and throughput. Without APC, the process handles are typically modified when alarms sound or when adjustments are made based on the experience of an operator. APC can dynamically predict the future trajectory of key variables and can calculate the optimal adjustments necessary to keep the key variables within certain limits, resulting in operating parameters being adjusted more safely, smoothly and consistently.
The use of APC results in more stable operations, which comes with clear benefits, such as fewer alarms, more safety, production within specifications, reduced wear on plant (e.g. thermal, mechanical stress), increased throughput per unit and/or less energy consumption per unit.
